A popular three tab shingle: Three tab shingles are quickly becoming obsolete. With the increasing popularity of dimensional shingle such as the Landmark series for Certainteed, or the Oakridge/Duration from Owens Corning three tabs have decreased in use. Given the name because each individual shingle has 3 tabs. They have a flatter visual appearance and in general don't last quite as long as architecturals.
PRO'S / ADVANTAGES
CON'S / DISADVANTAGES
These shingles are lightweight and easy to handle. Installers having been using this style of shingle for decades so finding a qualified installer should not be a problem. Most contractors will simply cut off the "tab" portion of the shingle and use the remainder for the starter strip which the first course of shingles lays down to. Also, you can cut the shingles in thirds to use as your cap shingles at the peek of the roof.
Longevity is lacking due to there lighter weight and design. Wind uplift warranty on these shingles is only 60mph and 5 Years which is less than half the warranty offered on many architecturals shingles. Quickly becoming obsolete as architectural shingles are dominating the market at a very competitive price point.

Comments :Wish I could give 3.5 stars. While they lasted they were great but 15 years later I'm putting on a new roof. I guess this is "normal" my roofer tells me these 25 year shingles really last about 15-17 on average. I just wish the manufacturers would be a little more honest in their advertising.
Date Product Installed : September 2000

Comments :This was kinda the go to shingle in my neighborhood back in 2000 when we had a hail storm. We upgraded to the 30 from the 25 but I don't know if it made much difference or not. No leaking and buckling but there does seem to be some more roofing granules in the gutters as of late. Not sure if that means I need a new roof soon or not? Always thought Certainteed was a good company and still do didn't realize they were actually french till I started looking up roofs.
